Katherine Noel Brosnahan aka Kate Spade began her career by working for Mademoiselle magazine. After working there for 5 years, she decided to branch out into her own line of handbags with her husband, Andy Spade. The brand quickly became known for their black nylon handbags and soon retailers took notice. In 1999 the Neiman Marcus group bought out Kate Spade and has since expanded it into a vibrant brand that can be seen around the house, office, beach, and everywhere in between. Recently Kate Spade made the news for being acquired by Coach. There was a bit of a backlash at first because representatives said they would be closing outlet locations and cutting back on sales, but so far it seems to be going well.
